Much effort, not much result

I like some parts but most of the parts just don't like

You can see that this took a long time to make. But you can also see that you aren't able to turn this all effort in a nice looking result. First of all, I don't like the style. I like sketchy style though. But this is rushed semi-sketch style. I know that the style you used takes more time than just collour it, And I even noticed some nice shadow work, but most of the time it is not done with the attention needed. The brush u used was a little bit to big sometimes. Animation can be very cool if you don't know how it is made. You recognice every brushstroke in your work.

Another thing. You said that you know that "there are a few mistakes with movements and everything". I agree, only there aren't a few mistakes, almost the whole movie is made out of mistakes. Walkcycles that doesn't walk the way they should. (even though I think you did take some time to study the way animals walk.) Your lines aren't smooth and mostly because of that the movements are not smooth, and therefore look crappy. I don't know if you used a tablet, If you didn't, you should, because that makes your lines a lot more on the right place most of the times. I like frame by frame work, some FbF animation in this movie wasn't to bad, but mainly because the lines were wobbly, it just didn't look right.

Another thing (again). The timing. Animation where you use voices is very difficult to make it sound right. You're timing is a little bit strange. Some parts look okay. But most of the time you wait to long. Especially in the conversations, and change in the moods of the characters. You should try to expiriment a little bit more with the timing, and if you think: yeah, that's right, you must keep it that way. Critic frome people around the corner are always helpfull. Timing is one of the most important things of animation. I know this, because I make the same mistakes as you do. Animation with voice-actors isn't a thing for me (yet). Lip sync was okay, but could have been better. The voice-actors could do a little more emotion in there voice. Oh and always add some backgroundsound, that would help. Anothere animation rule: if you change cameraview, don't make the character in first shot as big as the one in the second shot. Some camera angles you used where very good though.

The last thing. This is just a thing that I don't like about it, I know a lot of people around NG do like this sort of stuff. But I don't like the characters. I know you have seen the Lion King, And I know you like it. I also know you will say, that this is totally different, but I think this is just a Lion King rip off. I know that there are giant Cults around these things who like to make fan-art and create 'own' lions, but I don't see the creativity in that sort of stuff.

I don't want to discourage you, on the contrary. I can see you are able to put much effort in a animation, more than the avarage animator on newgrounds. But you need some feed-back on your work to improve it I think. A big production lik this would be much better than.

Good luck with it!

Well, thanks for your input on this, Grabbelfont. I'll read your comment over a few times, and consider making some more changes to my movie....I was planning on doing that anyway. :)

Nice animation

I hate that song! But I liked the animation. I don't really get the story, I think the song ruled over the animation and that's a shame because the animation shouldn't be overruled by such crapy music. Sometimes it wasn't very smooth and fluent. But it's clear that you are a good animator!

kroznot responds:

i agree with everything you said. I don't really love the music either but we are a Beijing based studio so were aiming at a Chinese audience and generally they love cute. Anyway, thanks for the comments.

lekker verhaaltje

Het is een goed verhaaltje en het komt duidelijk over. De geluiden die je eronder gezet zijn zijn ook superleuk, vooral dat 'klik' 'bliep' leuk gedaan allemaal

Jojojom responds:

hehe tnx ;p

I don't get it

First of all, I want to say that your style is pretty cool, very smooth and fluently. Now 4 things of the movie I don't like.

- The timing is not okay. I read in many reviews people find your movie to short. You're response: 'why does everyone care so much about length these days?'. Well, I don't think the length is the point although it is very short. I think people don't get the joke because your timing is wrong. People don't get the joke because of it.
- I don't get the point of it. I assume you're trying to make something funny, but I don't get any jokes.
- You're saying you made it loop so we guys could have something to review about, well I do. Don't do that anymore I don't like loopy animations if there is no point in looping. If I want to see a movie again I want to click 'play again'. I don't wanna ask myself: Is the movie over already or does it go on? The music that goes on and on, same story.
- You're saying it is a bear. If you make a bear give it a look of a bear and don't make a giant muscled mouse. That doesn't communicate. because people get more distracted by that.

Because of those 4 things and because of you saying you did it in 9 hours that I find far too much time for this. I'm giving you a 2. Well... the fact that you got frontpage with this maybe is also a reason.

Nevertheless, keep on animating, because I think you can, and the style and quality is there. just work on your story, presentations, jokes and timing.

Thanks for making this

imjeffhip responds:

There is no joke to get, it's not suppose to be funny. If I wanted it to look exactly like a bear, I would have. Thanks for reviewing.

not bad... but worse

just ad some graphics, you can make scenes, and you can make an own story, but those are the only good points I can think of right now... just use collour and not only a black fat brush to do al the things. Oh ad a 'stopallsounds' script because when you replay the movie, you hear two songs and that is kind of anoying (yes I know, nobody wants to replay this movie, but in case you want to make others, you know)

Sidorio responds:

CA PLANE POUR MOI!

I like it

I don't like most of the clock-movies, but I like this one! Nice and smooth animation, and I like the way your animation follows the music. What music did you use?

ToadClock responds:

"Battle at Witch Creek" A beautiful piece that came to popular attention when it was featured in the classic PC game "Rise of Nations".

Animation could have been better, Music was great

nice thing for one day. I just love the music! The story is very sad, but I'm not going to say: "oooooh you have a super-sad story! I give you 10/10!!!" The movie was very short and I don't think the graphics are very spectacular. I saw syndacite1 and I know your graphics could have been much better. I dont think the animation has much to do with the story you want tell. Maybe if you put more effort in it then just one day, it would have been a great movie. But as I said the music was great! I love the music of amélie in your menu, but it's not very difficult to just add it in the menu. The main reason i give you a 7 and not a 3 or 4 is that I love the music you composed. What program did you used to make it?

studio-nightbird responds:

lolz. thanks for the review. and also glad you enjoyed my song. now...the graphics. I would spend about 10 or less minutes working on each drawing (2 minutes on frame by frame). I really rushed it cuz i really want syndacite 2 to come out FAST. the menu didn't take me a hole day. really only took me 10-20 minutes to make. as for your last question I used FL Studios and live recording on the flute. thanks for the review

cool

I think you've seen to much of David Firth

Beyond-Insanity-666 responds:

How did you know! Have you been perving on me?!

a drug???

Smon responds:

You're on the CSG-patch.
